Former journalist turned consumer advocate for safe products, healthy food and clean production. Co-founder and current co-director of U.S. Right to Know, a nonprofit founded in 2015 to bring transparency to our food system. In 2002, I co-founded the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a coalition of groups working to eliminate harmful chemicals from personal care products. My award-winning book, “Not Just a Pretty Face: The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry” (New Society, 2007) tells the inside story of our efforts to give the $60 billion beauty industry a makeover. In 2012, I was media director for the historic California Right to Know ballot initiative to label genetically engineered foods. Over the years I have partnered with many leading environmental and consumer groups on campaigns to change harmful corporate practices and build demand for a healthy green economy. My personal philosophy: It’s time to create the world we want to live in!
